Referral sources

Keep a directory of the schools, offices and programs that refer patients, with the people you hear from there, and see which sources send the most referrals.

Referral sources are the places your patients come from: a school, a pediatric office, an early intervention program, a daycare, a hospital, your website. Each source can list the people there who send referrals, such as a school counselor or an office's referral coordinator.

Open Setup > Referral Sources. Anyone with access to Setup can see the list; people whose role can manage physicians can add and change sources.

Add a source#

  1. Click New Referral Source.
  2. Enter the Name and choose the Kind: Physician office, School, Early intervention, Daycare, Hospital, Agency, Insurance, Family or self, Website or search or Other.
  3. Add the Phone, Fax and Email, and turn on Address or Notes if you want them.
  4. Under Contacts, click Add Contact for each person, with their Name, Title, Phone and Email. Drag the handles to put the main contact first.
  5. Click Add Referral Source.

To change a source, click its name or choose Edit in the row menu.

Use a source on a referral#

When you add a referral or an episode of care, pick the Referral source and the contact under Referred by. The episode list and the referral queue show the source's name.

The Referrals by source report counts referrals per source, grouped by kind, and how many went on to an evaluation. A source on the referral comes first; a referral without one counts under its referring physician, or the free text in Source details.

Retire a source#

Turn off Active when a source stops referring. It stays on the referrals that named it but is no longer offered. Delete works only for a source no referral names yet.
