EOB review

Upload a paper explanation of benefits, check its lines against your claims and post it as an insurance payment.

Paper explanations of benefits (EOBs) that arrive by mail or fax can be uploaded and posted from Payments > EOB review. You need permission to post insurance payments.

Upload an EOB#

  1. Click Upload EOB, choose the file (a PDF or an image) and a document category, and click Upload.
  2. The file is checked for malware, then opens in review. If the check is still running, the EOB waits; click Read Again in a moment.

NeatPractice does not read EOB images automatically yet, so you enter what the EOB says beside the file. Nothing posts until you post it.

Review and match the lines#

The review shows the file on one side and the EOB's details on the other:

  • Under Payment, choose the Payer and enter the check or trace number, the date it was paid and the amount.
  • Under Service lines, add one row per line on the EOB: the claim number, patient, date of service, code, and the billed, allowed, paid, deductible, coinsurance, copay and write-off amounts, or the denial code for a denied line.

Click Save and Match. NeatPractice ties each line to the claim line it pays, by claim number (yours or the payer's), date of service and code. A line that matches more than one charge, or none, stays unmatched until you correct it; Unmatch clears a match that is wrong.

Post the payment#

Click Post Payment. The insurance payment dialog opens with the payer, check, amount and every matched line filled in. Check the lines, then post as usual. The EOB file is then kept with the payment, and the EOB leaves the review list. Show All lists posted and discarded EOBs too.

To remove a duplicate or the wrong file from review, choose Discard in the more actions menu.
