Getting started

Patient panel

Narrow a work list to one patient or a few with the patient panel on the left of the page.

Work lists such as Visits, Todos, Documentation, Plans of care, Patient documents, Charge Review, Claims and the Referral queue, and the Schedule, show a Patients panel to the left of the page, just right of the area's menu panel. Use it to see only the rows for the patients you are working on, without changing the list's other filters.

Pick patients#

  • Click a patient to show only that patient's rows. Click All patients to go back to everyone.
  • To add more patients, tick the box next to each name. You can also hold Ctrl (or Cmd on a Mac) while you click a name, or hold Shift to add every patient between the last one you picked and this one.
  • The patients you picked appear at the top of the panel. Click the x on a name to remove that patient.
  • Type part of a name or a chart number in the search box to find a patient who is not in the first part of the list. The list shows only patients you are allowed to see, at the location you are working in.
  • The list loads 25 patients at a time. When more match, the end of the list shows how many and a Show more button.
  • The panel lists Active and Referral patients. Turn on Include inactive and discharged to find older charts too; their status shows next to the chart number. NeatPractice remembers the switch for you.
  • A patient with a preferred name shows it in brackets after the legal name.
  • You can pick up to 50 patients at once. At the limit, the panel says so; remove a patient to add another.
  • If the list cannot load, click Try again. Your search and your picks stay as they were.

When you pick exactly one patient, a card at the bottom of the panel shows the patient's name, chart number, date of birth and age, and the alert flag when the patient has alerts or allergies. Click Open chart to go to the chart.

New items start for the picked patient#

With one patient selected, new items start for that patient: New Appointment and Find a Time on the schedule (also when you click an empty time on the calendar), New Visit, New Document, New Plan of Care, Upload Document, New Patient Payment, New Referral and File to Chart in the fax inbox open with the patient already filled in. Where the form lets you pick a patient, you can still change it. With several patients picked, nothing is filled in for you.

Your pick stays when you reload the page or copy its link, so a colleague who opens the link sees the same patients. The link carries only an internal reference for each patient, never a name. Anyone who opens it still sees only the patients their own role allows.

Collapse the panel#

Click the collapse button at the top of the panel to shrink it to a thin strip and give the list more room. The strip shows how many patients are picked. Click the expand button on the strip to open the panel again. NeatPractice remembers whether you left it open or collapsed on this device.

On a phone or a narrow window, the panel is hidden. Tap Patients above the list to open it, pick patients, then close it to see the list.

Providers tab#

Lists with a provider column also list providers in the panel, if your role lets you see them there. The Schedule, Visits, Todos, Documentation, Note reviews, QA reviews, Caregiver signatures, Charge Review and Claims show Patients and Providers tabs. Lists about staff, or without a patient panel, show only providers: Timesheets, Supervision, Case supervision, Competency, Performance plans, Monthly summaries, Live sessions, Audit scores, EDI Enrollments, the three EVV pages and the Reminder log. A list keeps the rows where a picked provider is the provider, the rendering provider, the author, the case lead, the supervisee or primary supervisor, or the staff member, observer or plan owner. Pick providers the same way as patients: click one, tick the boxes to add more, or click All providers. The tab shows how many you picked, and switching tabs keeps both picks.
