Mastery queue

Review the mastery moves NeatPractice suggests from session data, accept, dismiss or revert them, and see each learner's mastery history.

When a learner's data meets a program's mastery rule, NeatPractice does not move the target on its own. It writes a suggestion and puts it in the mastery queue for a credentialed user, such as the learner's behavior analyst, to decide. The only exception is a program with auto-advance turned on.

What a suggestion shows#

  • The learner, program and target.
  • The rule that was met, as a sentence such as At least 80 for 3 consecutive sessions in intervention, with the values that met it. A rule that needs two providers says from two providers and waits until a second provider's sessions share the window.
  • The data points that qualified, and the date they were evaluated.
  • The move it proposes: from the current status and prompt level to the new ones.
  • When the same data also met the current short-term goal's criterion, that the goal would be marked met.

A target has at most one waiting suggestion at a time. NeatPractice proposes nothing new for it until that one is decided.

Work the queue#

The queue lists the waiting suggestions for the learners you can approve mastery for, oldest data first. Filter by status to see Pending, Accepted, Dismissed, Applied automatically or Reverted suggestions.

For each suggestion, choose one of these, with an optional note:

  • Accept: the target moves as proposed, dated to the day the data was evaluated. The move appears in the target's history as an Accepted suggestion, with the rule that was met. If the data also met the current short-term goal, that goal is marked met and the next one becomes current on the goal ladder.
  • Dismiss: nothing moves. The decision and your note stay on record.

If the target was moved some other way after the suggestion was made, accepting is refused so the newer move is not overwritten. Dismiss the suggestion instead.

Revert a change#

You can revert an accepted suggestion or an automatic one:

  1. Open the learner's mastery history and find the change.
  2. Choose Revert and add a note if you like.

The target moves back to the status and prompt level it had before, dated today, and a short-term goal the change marked met is unmarked. Revert is refused once the target has moved again since that change; move it by hand from the program instead.

The learner's mastery history#

Each learner has a history of every suggestion and decision, newest first: what was suggested, what was decided, by whom, when and with which note. Automatic moves are labeled Applied automatically and show as System changes in the target's history, so you can always tell a person's decision from an automatic one.

Permissions#

The queue and the accept, dismiss and revert actions need permission to approve mastery, for the learners on your caseload or for all learners. Reading a learner's mastery history needs permission to read their ABA plan. See Roles and permissions.
