Chart notes
Keep a dated log of calls, messages and reminders on a patient's chart, and pin the ones everyone should see first.
The Notes tab on a patient's chart is a log of everyday communication: a call with a parent, a billing question, a scheduling request, an office reminder. Chart notes are not part of the clinical record and never replace visit documentation.
Add a note#
- Open the patient's chart and click the Notes tab.
- Click Add Note.
- Choose a Type: Communication, Billing, Scheduling or Admin.
- Write the note.
- Turn on Pin to the top if everyone opening the chart should see it first, then click Add Note.
NeatPractice records who wrote the note and when.
Pinned notes#
Pinned notes always list above the others, with a Pinned badge, and show at the top of the patient's Overview for everyone who opens the chart. Use them for standing information, such as "Statements go to the responsible party's email." To pin or unpin a note, open the row's menu and click Pin or Unpin. Anyone who can edit the chart can pin or unpin any note.
Correct or delete a note#
You can edit or delete your own note for 24 hours after you write it: open the row's menu and click Edit or Delete. After 24 hours the note can no longer change. To correct it, add a new note.
Find a note#
Notes list newest first. Use Type above the list to show one kind of note, such as only billing notes, and click Written or Type to sort; pinned notes stay on top either way.
