Accounts
Period close
Close an accounting month so its totals stay final, see corrections post in the open month, and reopen the latest closed month when you must.
Closing a month keeps its totals final for month-end reporting. Open Accounts, then Period close.
Close a month#
Click Close followed by the month, such as Close September 2026, and confirm. You can close a month once it is over. Months close in order: after the first close, the next one is always the month after the last closed month.
After a month is closed#
- No payment can be dated in a closed month. Choose a received date in the open month instead.
- Anything NeatPractice posts later for a date in a closed month, such as a charge entered late for an old date of service, a reversal or money applied to an old charge, is posted on the first day of the open month. The closed month's totals never change.
- Dates of service, received dates and claims keep their own dates; only the posting date moves.
Reopen a month#
Only the most recently closed month can be reopened. Choose Reopen in its row's actions, give the reason and click Reopen Month. The list keeps the close and the reopening with who did each and why. Close the month again when you are done.
Permissions#
Closing and reopening months needs permission to manage period close.
