Caregiver signatures

See every session still waiting for the patient's or caregiver's signature, filter by patient, and collect one signature that covers several sessions, each confirmed on its own.

Some payers and codes ask the patient or a caregiver to sign that the services of each session were received (see Patient signatures in clinic). When that signature was not collected at the end of the session, the session waits on the Caregiver signatures list until it is.

Find the sessions waiting#

Choose Documentation > Caregiver signatures. The menu shows how many sessions are waiting beside the entry, for the location chosen at the top of the menu.

The list holds every session that has ended, is not voided, has no signature yet, and whose payer or one of whose codes asks for one. A code's own requirement gives way to the payer's rule for that code, so a session whose payer waives the signature for its codes stays off the list. It covers the patients you can collect signatures for. Pick a patient in the patient panel to see only their sessions, or providers on its Providers tab to see the sessions they ran.

Sign several sessions at once#

  1. Select the sessions to sign. One signature always covers a single patient's sessions: once you check a session, only that patient's other sessions can be checked. Picking the patient in the patient panel first narrows the list; picking another patient clears the sessions you selected.
  2. Click Collect Signature in the bar that appears at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Hand over the device. The sessions show as a daily summary: one heading per day with its number of sessions and total time, then each session's time, provider and codes. Sessions can span several days, so one signature can cover a week. The patient or caregiver checks each session they received, then types their full name, chooses who they are, keeps the typed signature or draws one, checks I agree with the statement above and adopt this as my electronic signature and clicks Sign.

NeatPractice records the signature on every confirmed session, as if it had been collected on each one: the session leaves the list, the visit shows its attestation, and a required one stops blocking the visit from being signed. If a session cannot take the signature (for example it changed since the list loaded), nothing is recorded; refresh the list and try again.
