Disciplines
Choose the therapy disciplines your clinic offers, the module each belongs to, and the therapy modifier, default appointment length and color for each.
A discipline is a kind of therapy your clinic provides, such as speech-language pathology (SLP) or occupational therapy (OT). Keep the list to the disciplines your clinic offers; inactive ones stay out of the way.
Open Setup > Clinic > Disciplines to see your list. Anyone with access to Setup can see it; only people whose role can manage the practice can change it.
Discipline modules#
Each discipline belongs to a module: Speech, Occupational therapy, Physical therapy, Mental health or applied behavior analysis (ABA). Your plan decides which modules your clinic holds. A discipline can be active only while your clinic holds its module, and pickers such as the episode, appointment type and code pickers list only disciplines in modules you hold.
If a module leaves your plan, its records stay: you can still open, print and bill everything already recorded, and correct claims for past services. You cannot start new episodes, appointments, visits or documents in it. Drafts dated before the change can still be signed for 30 days.
The starting list#
Every new clinic starts with these disciplines:

Turn on a discipline when your clinic starts offering it and holds its module.
Add or edit a discipline#
- Click New Discipline, or open the menu on a row and choose Edit.
- Enter a Code of up to 10 letters or digits, unique in your clinic. NeatPractice stores it in capitals.
- Enter the Name staff will see.
- Choose the Module the discipline belongs to.
- Choose the Therapy modifier claims add for this discipline, or None.
- Set the Default appointment length, from 5 to 480 minutes in steps of 5.
- Pick a Color for the schedule and lists.
- Click Create Discipline, or Save Changes for an existing one.
Turning on Active for a discipline whose module your clinic does not hold shows an error; save it inactive instead, or add the module first.
Deactivate or delete a discipline#
Turn off Active to stop offering a discipline. It disappears from pickers but stays on every record that already uses it. You can delete a discipline only while nothing uses it; otherwise deactivate it.

Click Export CSV to download the list as a spreadsheet file, or Print for a PDF of the list. See Import, export and print.
