Places of Service
Name the places your clinic sees patients, such as a school or a community center, and the place of service code each one bills.
Every claim line carries a place of service code that tells the payer where the service happened. Open Setup > Places of Service to keep your clinic's own list of places, named the way your staff talk about them, each mapped to its code.
A new clinic starts with office, home, school, telehealth in the patient's home, telehealth elsewhere and community. Rename them, hide the ones you never use, and add your own, such as a school you serve often.
Add a place#
Click New Place and fill in:
- Place: the name your staff pick, such as
Lincoln Elementary. - Place of service code: the two-digit code claims carry for it. Search by number or by name.
- Order: lower numbers come first in the list.
- Active: inactive places are no longer offered.
Several places may share one code. They show together in the list, for example School / Lincoln Elementary (03).
Where places are offered#
The Place of service field on a visit and on a patient's service address offers your places first. Choose Another place of service code to search the full code list for a one-off. A visit or address keeps the code it was saved with, so changing or deleting a place never changes past claims.
Managing the list needs the Setup: Practice Manage permission.
