Getting started

Supported browsers and devices

Which browsers, devices and screen sizes NeatPractice supports, what the out-of-date browser notice means, and how to reset the app's saved data on a device.

NeatPractice runs in a web browser. There is nothing to install on a computer, and every update reaches you the next time a page loads.

Browsers#

NeatPractice supports the two most recent major versions of these browsers:

BrowserComputersTablets and phones
Google ChromeWindows, macOS, ChromeOS, LinuxAndroid
Microsoft EdgeWindows, macOSAndroid
Mozilla FirefoxWindows, macOS, LinuxNot supported for offline collection
Apple SafarimacOSiPhone and iPad

Most browsers update themselves. If yours is managed by your clinic's IT team, ask them to keep it current.

Internet Explorer and other browsers no longer receiving updates do not work with NeatPractice.

When your browser is out of date#

If your browser lacks something NeatPractice relies on, a notice reading Your browser is out of date shows at the top of the page. You can keep working, but some screens may not behave as expected.

  1. Update the browser, or switch to one of the browsers above.
  2. Reload NeatPractice. The notice goes away once the browser is current.

Click the X on the notice to hide it until you next open the app.

Devices and screen sizes#

  • Computers: a window at least 1280 pixels wide shows lists and the schedule in full. Narrower windows still work; the side menu and some panels fold away.
  • Tablets: NeatPractice works on tablets held either way, and the menu opens from the button in the top left corner. Tablets are the best fit for sessions away from a desk and for the check-in kiosk.
  • Phones: My Day, the schedule, tasks and offline collection are laid out for phones. Billing, Setup and reports are easier on a larger screen.

You can add NeatPractice to the home screen of a tablet or phone so it opens like an app. See Offline collection for installing it and preparing sessions without a connection.

Resetting the app on a device#

A device keeps a copy of NeatPractice's pages so it loads quickly, and devices prepared for offline collection also keep their offline sessions. If pages look stale, a screen keeps failing to load after an update, or offline sessions will not open, reset the app on that device.

  1. Make sure the device is online and wait for any offline entries to sync. On Offline Sessions, nothing should be waiting to sync.
  2. Sign out of NeatPractice. Signing out erases the offline data kept on the device.
  3. In the browser's settings, clear the site data for NeatPractice's address only (in Chrome and Edge: Settings, Privacy, Site settings, then NeatPractice's address and Delete data; in Safari: Settings, Privacy, Manage Website Data).
  4. Close every NeatPractice tab, open NeatPractice again and sign in.

If the problem continues after a reset, contact support from the Help panel and include the browser and device you use. Do not include patient details.
