Billing
Claim aging
Follow up on insurance claims a payer still owes and post their payment or denial from the list.
Aging in the Billing panel of the main menu lists the insurance claims a payer still owes, aged from the day the claim was sent to the clearinghouse or mailed. You need permission to read billing records.
Aging buckets#
The cards at the top total what payers still owe in each age bucket: 0-30, 31-60, 61-90, 91-120 and 120+ days, with the number of claims in each. They count every open claim, whatever the age filter shows.
The list#
The list opens on claims 21+ days old, the age by which most payers should have answered. Each row shows the claim, the patient, the payer, the first date of service, the age and the date it was sent, what was billed and paid, the balance still owed and the claim status. Denial open marks a claim with a denial on the denials worklist.
Use Age to change the starting age (choose Any age to see every open claim) and Payer to see one payer. The patient panel narrows the list to the patients you pick, and the location switcher at the top of the menu to one location.
A claim leaves the list once its payer's share is paid, adjusted or moved to the next payer.
Post from a row#
Open a row's menu:
- Post Payment opens a new insurance payment with the claim's payer and dates of service already filled in, so its lines are ready to enter from the explanation of benefits. See Insurance payments. You need permission to post insurance payments.
- Post Denial records a denial read from a paper explanation of benefits, for the whole claim or one line, and puts it on the denials worklist. You need permission to work rejections.
- Open Claim opens the claim.
Posting never edits the claim: the payment, adjustment or denial is recorded on its own, as from any other screen.
