Procedural fidelity
Build checklists of the steps in an ABA procedure and score staff against them while you watch a session, to track treatment integrity per learner.
Procedural fidelity (also called treatment integrity) checks that staff run a procedure the way the plan describes. Your clinic keeps checklists of each procedure's steps; a supervisor scores one while watching a session.
Build a checklist#
- Go to Setup, Fidelity Checklists and click New Checklist.
- Name the checklist and add its items. Pick how each item is scored:
- Yes or no: answered once per observation (yes, no or N/A).
- Per trial: scored on every trial you watch. List the trial's components, separated by commas (for example
Clear instruction, Prompt at the current level, Reinforcer within 3 seconds).
- Click Create Checklist.
Turning a checklist off keeps it on recorded observations but removes it from the picker. Editing or deleting a checklist never changes an observation already recorded; each observation keeps its own copy of the items.
Record an observation#
- Open the learner's chart, then the ABA sessions view.
- Under Procedural fidelity, click Record Fidelity.
- Pick the checklist, the staff member you observed and the date.
- Answer each yes or no item. For a per-trial item, click Add Trial for each trial you watch and clear any component that was missed.
- Click Record.
The score shows as you go and is saved with the observation:
- A yes or no item counts yes over yes plus no. N/A stays out of the score.
- A trial counts as correct only when every one of its components is correct.
- The fidelity percent pools both: correct items and trials over everything scored.
To remove an observation recorded in error, choose Delete in its row menu and give a reason. You need permission to correct ABA data.
